Rural Hospitals Abandoning the Baby Business
AP is running an article how more and more rural hospitals are leaving out the business of delivering babies.
Some of the reasons for this in Idaho is seen to be malpractice insurance costs and increasing numbers of "Medicaid moms".
County-run Minidoka Memorial Hospital in southern Idaho began referring all pregnant patients to nearby hospitals in Burley, Twin Falls and Pocatello. This move has lowered its family doctors' insurance costs by about $10,000 each, said the hospital's chief operating officer, Carl Hanson.

Malpractice Forum - Panelists Explore Possibilities For Legislative Fix
The Olympian, Washington, hosted a forum about medical malpractice, forum that offered new solutions to the problem.
The event had as participants two of the biggest parties in last fall’s more than $14 million political battle over two rival initiatives — the Washington State Medical Association and the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association.
Other participants were representatives of the state hospital association, a consumer advocate, Physicians Insurance, AARP, and the Liability Reform Coalition.

Massachusettes Earned a D-minus for Medical Liability Laws
An alarming shortage of doctors in Massachusetts could ramp up to be a crisis now that Massachusetts has been judged one of the worst states in the nation for malpractice insurance rates, worried physicians are saying.
“We’re trying to sound the alarms,” Dr. Alan Harvey, president of the Massachusetts Medical Society, said yesterday. “It’s very much a concern for physicians in Massachusetts and it’s not improving.”
